The Target

The concept behind off242.com originated during a return trip from seeing Front 242 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the summer of 1998. At that time, I had been named to a Web development team at my former place of business, but I wanted a domain to experiment. Plus, it allowed me my own mail server, so I would no longer have to fret over sending everyone I had ever emailed an updated address each time I changed ISPs due to either a change in pricing structure or a company going out of business.

That first address, monster@off242.com, sadly, is no more, but off242.com lived on, serving as a permanent address on the Web for me to post pictures, details about what I was doing, and so-on. Think of it as a more time-intensive, self-generated Facebook, only without as many privacy concerns or the flood of money.

That target you see in the lower right corner of the pages was a design that "came to me" during that drive back from Baton Rouge. Later, it would be realized that it was a take on Front 242's own target logo, used on the Tyranny >For You< album. I went ahead and took the steps to copyright my own logo and have not heard anything from Front 242's lawyers on the matter. Richard 23 & I were even friends on Facebook. :)
