But Changers Are a Good Thing
Keeping the AVR-2803 company on its bottom shelf is an Optimus CD-8300 50+1 CD changer.
50+1? Wouldn't that just make it a 51-disc changer, then?
No, the way the CD-8300 is set up is two banks of 25 discs, accessed via flip-style doors (when one bank is playing, the other can be have discs swapped out, and vice-versa), with a single disc slot on the far left; the single-disc slot is similar to that found on car CD players, except discs insert vertically instead of horizontally.
The changer has been a real work horse. surviving many moves and hundreds of exchanges, depending on my mood. And, with the Denon featuring an optical input for CD, I'm finally able to utilize the digital output the CD-8300 comes equipped with. Yeah, it's big, but for the $75 I paid for it back in 1998, I really can't complain. It won't be replaced anytime soon, that's for sure, unless wireless MP3 servers come down drastically in price. >>
