It's Not Hip to be Square
Televisions come in all shapes & sizes, the more modern of which is the high definition (HD) variety, which is more of a rectangle than a square. This shape helps to preserve the 16x9 (wide-screen) aspect ratio found on most DVD's and will establish you as an elitist among your friends. Just remember you'll be rid of the black bars on the top & bottom of your screen when watching a movie.
The size of the room where the TV will be placed should help decide how big it is, in case your budget doesn't already do so. I got lucky in that size & budget were in concert with one another, making the Philips 30PW850H37A a perfect fit.
Just the Facts, Ma'am
The television is HD-ready and features a multi-hundred channel cable TV tuner, along with a multitude of inputs on the back & side. The tuner doesn't do Jack for me, since I don't watch TV; I just watch movies. And the 30" HD screen and component-input on the backside do the job beautifully. But home theater is more than about just looking good; it's gotta sound good, too. >>
