Hey, That's Not Factory, EitherThe Deck Out Back
An identical set of the MB Quart XXXX can be found in the factory locations in the rear deck. The manner of mounting was similar to that of the front satellites; masonite baffles covered by the factory grills. Nothing fancy, but every bit as functional in sound quality.

And the Quart satellites are indeed quality. A number of articles have been written about poor sound quality when satellites fire up at the rear windshield; sound deflection and all. The Quarts, however, have exhibited none of the qualities mentioned in those articles, and have provided nothing but great sound, right from their factory-located homes.

Everyone needs to be told what to do every now and again; speakers need it all the time. This can be done actively or passively. Electronic, or active, crossovers require -- get this -- electricity, and is done with a pre-amplified signal. While the Kenwood KDC-MP919 does feature an active crossover to limit signals shuttled to the mid & sub woofers, there is a quartet of passive crossovers to send the appropriate signal to the appropriate speaker in the Quart satellite configuration.

The crossovers are 2-way passive (low to low, high to high), and are interconnected with MonsterCable 14AWG speaker wire. Being passive, the crossovers generate no heat, making the real estate beneath the Saturn's rear seat an ideal home. >>
