Decked Out
The system begins with a Kenwood KDC-MP919 model deck, which boasts the standard AM/FM tuner and CD transport, as well as beefed-up signal processing duties, eliminating the need for external signal processors such as an equalizer or crossover. The MP919 can also read MP3 files off CD-R/RW media eliminating the need for a CD changer.
The MP919 replaced my McIntosh MX-401 control deck and Clarion Pro Audio CDC635 CD changer run for a number of years. Primary reason was that the CDC635 would not read CD-R media, and I tired of the wait-time necessary for switching between CD's. Outboard signal processing and lack of remote control for subwoofer level output, etc. was also proving trying, so it came time to remove the Mac and reintroduce Kenwood to the Saturn.
Heads Up
As mentioned above, Kenwood's KDC-MP919 provides signal processing duties in addition to its source functionality. This includes electronic crossovers for front & rear speakers, as well as crossover & output level for the system's subwoofer, and a multi-band equalizer. The system's output performance is monitored via spectrum analyzer found on the MP919's face. Additionally, the MP919 can display animations of race cars or something; this function has been disabled. >>
